You can try to shift the shaft backwards on your AXI 2212/20 motor. Simply loosen the set screw on the outrunner can, adjust the shaft backwards till the way you like it and tighten the setscrew back up ... Forget about the C-Ring on the shaft... it serves no purpose on the motor as you are mounting it "forward". Have fun!

Thanks Capt. Sky, the actual problem is not so much the shaft length which as you say can be altered with ease but the length of the dead metal that is behind the propeller on the the adaptor. The other consideration is the motor fixing screw heads (4) which again defines how far back you can go.
